There have been many efforts in Computer Graphics to develop physically-based light reflection models [BLIN77, COOK82, HE91, KAJI85, PHON75].
Reflection models are generally presented in terms of a bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF)
where dIr is the reflected radiance or intensity, measured in watts per meter-squared per steradian, and dEi is the incident energy flux, measured in watts per meter-squared. In general, the BRDF is a function of many parameters which can be divided into two groups, i.e., geometrical parameters and physical parameters.
