Newer Images
The following images are basically updated versions of those generated
for the SIGGRAPH '92 paper, "Predicting
Reflectance Functions from Complex Surfaces", by Stephen H. Westin,
James R. Arvo, and Kenneth E. Torrance, or for my eponymous Master's
Thesis from Cornell, or during work for those publications. All images

I have recomputed each images with the following changes:
- I turned up the light intensity.
- I gamma-corrected before quantization to reduce artifacts
including noise.
- I used more samples in the Monte Carlo image generation, as I
now have a faster machine than I did in 1992.
All images are corrected for a monitor gamma of 2.2.
Bright velvet cushion
Original (1992) image
New image. I recomputed the BRDF with rounded ends on each
fiber, to eliminate the whitish highlight visible in the front center
of the cushion.
Dark velvet cushion
Original (1992) image
New image. The increased brightness reduces the saturation a bit, and
starts to show a bit of ringing in the spherical harmonics used to
represent the BRDF; this is visible in the front center of the
cushion.
